Regular Assembly Meetings Initiation / Installation ::
- Assembly Officers - floor-length white gowns, white dress shoes, stockings, slip, and appropriate white undergarments.
- Visiting Rainbow Girls, female adults and friends - dress or skirt and blouse, dress shoes, stockings, and appropriate undergarments.
- Visiting DeMolay, male adults, and friends - dress/khaki pants and dress or polo shirt. Tie and jacket are required for initiation and installation.
- All Mother Advisors - asked to wear white formal for initiation.
Grand Assembly ::
- Specific Grand Assembly dress code is addressed in letters sent to all Mother Advisors in registration packets.
- Sessions - Grand Officers, Grand Pages, and Grand Choir-floor-length white gowns and white shoes; Adult executives, PGWA’s, out-of-state or Masonic guests-floor-length colored gowns and dress shoes (except for initiation when everyone wears white; Visiting Rainbow girls and female adults-dress or skirt and blouse and dress shoes; Visiting DeMolay and male adults- dress/khaki pants, shirt and tie. Jacket is optional.
- Meals - Rainbow girls and female adults- dress or skirt and blouse, dress shoes, stockings, or gowns; Visiting DeMolay, male adults, and friends: dress/khaki pants, shirt and tie. Jacket is optional.
- Free-time activities - dress pants/khakis, capris, but NO pajama pants or sweat clothing.
- Grand Banquet and Ball - Rainbow girls- floor or tea-length white or colored gowns, dress shoes, stockings, slip, and appropriate undergarments; female adults and friends-dress or skirt and blouse, dress shoes, stockings, and appropriate undergarments; visiting DeMolay male adults, and friends-dress pants, shirt, tie, jacket and dress shoes, or tuxedo.
Grand Officer Receptions ::
- Area Officers participating as an officer: floor-length white gowns, white dress shoes, stockings, slip, and appropriate white undergarments.
- Grand Officers: floor or tea-length white or colored gowns, dress shoes, stockings, slip, and appropriate undergarments.
- Visiting Rainbow girls, female adults, and friends: dress or skirt and blouse, dress shoes, stockings, and appropriate undergarments.
- Visiting DeMolay, male adults, and friends: dress/khaki pants, shirt and tie. Jacket is optional.
- Grand Executive Committee, Grand Deputies, State Board, and PGWA’s: as above, except for Homecoming, when formal attire is required.
- Formal attire should include no black of any kind. Gowns MUST have some strap (no strapless or off-the-shoulder), and the back of the dress cannot be open below the natural bra-line. No hoop skirts are allowed. Slits in gowns may not be above the knee. Formal attire is required for anyone sitting in the East.
Service Projects, Fund Raisers, Parades and other Public Events ::
- When representing Rainbow to another organization or establishment (ie. Masonic dinners, visits to nursing homes): dress or skirt and blouse, dress shoes, stockings, and appropriate undergarments.
- For fun, fund-raising, or other activities, dress pants/khakis, capris, and tasteful shorts are allowed. All must be worn at the waistline and have a hem. Rainbow t-shirts are appropriate, and a great way to promote your organization to the public! Comfortable shoes/sneakers may be worn.
- Bathing suits must be in good taste and fit properly. Cover-ups and appropriate shoes must be worn when traveling to and from the pool area.
- Dresses or skirts and blouses should be worn whenever arriving to or leaving from any Rainbow meeting.
General Rules ::
- No solid black or dark brown clothing may be worn at any time. The only exception is shoes.
- Jeans, mini-skirts, short-shorts, spandex, tube tops, or tight or revealing clothes are never appropriate for Rainbow activities.
- Clothing with rips, tears, or holes, and with controversial or suggestive printing will not be allowed.
- Appropriate length for dresses, skirts, and shorts is no more than two (2) inches above the knee.
- Athletic shoes should never be worn for any regular meetings, initiation, installation, receptions, when representing Rainbow to other organizations in public, or Grand Assembly (except for free time when not wearing dresses or formal attire).
- No visible body piercing other than the ears is allowed at ANY Rainbow function.
- All tattoos must be completely covered when attending any Rainbow function.
Keep in Mind the Golden Rule ::
- When in doubt, leave it out! (or at least at home for non-Rainbow times)
This dress code applies to all Rainbow Girls and adult advisors WHENEVER representing Rainbow in ANY way.
While visitors should be encouraged to comply with stated dress codes, they should not criticized if attired in other than the stated manner.
Remember ::
At all times, you are representing the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and every member and advisor associated with the organization, so tasteful and appropriate should be your watch words as you dress to attend any Rainbow function.
