Children's Learning Center of Dyslexia

Sponsored by the Scottish Rite

I’m sure you’re thinking dyslexia, big deal…but it is a BIG deal.  Take a moment and imagine yourself reading the news paper, the comics to be exact, there is normally not that much writing in the comics but what is there looks backwards to you.  You know that it’s suppose to be funny because you can see the pictures but you don’t
understand the words,  b’s look like d’s and 6’s are 9’s and don’t even start with p’s q’s and z’s (in cursive).  Nothing makes sense and you start to get irritated.  Now imagine yourself as a child who wants so badly to learn to read, but can’t.  Reading is a daily frustration, as you live in a world of confusion, a world of letters and numbers that make no sense.  This is the life of a dyslexic child, but there is hope for this child.  With the proper tutoring, a dyslexic child can be taught to “see” the jumbled letters in the correct way, thus making it possible to read and write.

There are approximately 52 Children’s Learning Center of Dyslexia in 15 States, two of which are in NY.  The learning centers are designed to help these children learn to their fullest while still living with dyslexia.  The learning centers provide tutoring for children K-12 free at charge.  It costs approximately $5,000 to tutor a child for 1 year, and on average, these children need 2 years of tutoring.  This year we WILL help a child learn how to read and write by raising money for the Children’s Learning Center of Dyslexia

As always, the Jr. Boards has ways to help raise money, this year we will be selling windbreaker jacket, tie dyed sweatshirts and Rainbow shaped wristlets (large size coin purses).  All of these items will be available after the Southern Reception. It is also our intent to have these items available on line as well so please check back after October.  In addition, every Rainbow girl will be encouraged to fill a $5.00 coin card.  The girl filling her coin card the most, thus raising the most money, will receive a price at Grand Assembly.  Also, check back to learn about the “Special” Mother Advisor’s campaign.  So check back soon and let’s try and reach our $5000.00 goal an order to change the life of one child.  Because remember WE can change the world, one child at a time!

Treasuring our Rainbow through service for a brighter tomorrow,
